Arthritis: What it is, Why you get it
and how to stop the pain.
"Twenty one million Americans suffer from this potentially crippling disease and account for 7 million doctors visits each year. Yet with new warnings out about the best available pain relief, treating it is more complicated than ever. New techniques for repairing damaged joints are showing promise. In one, doctors inject joints with a synthetic derivative of hyaluronic acid- a gooey fluid that lubricates normal joints and is lacking in arthritic ones."

This amazing new anti-aging molecule
can erase years from your face, protect
your joints and more.
..."HA is essential for producing healthy, smooth, scar-free skin after an injury," explains Los Angeles nutrition educator Deanne Dolnick, M.S. The good news: boosting your HA levels will not only prevent future scarring, it'll erase the scars you already have, says Dolnick. In fact, research suggests taking HA daily shortens the time it takes for wounds to heal by 40%- and reduces even thick, red keloid scars by at least 50% in four months. And it could be a boon for those struggling with complexion problems, too. "People with acne just assume they're stuck with those nasty red scars," says Dolnick. "But taking HA prevents them from forming and can make old acne spots disappear in as little as three months."...
...According to research, taking HA daily helps rebuild the "pillow" of fluid that cushions joints for fully 97% of people who try it. And experts say it may even stimulate the repair of joint cartilage, the natural padding that covers the ends of bones....
...and now research suggests that taking HA in oral form can lower your risk of ever developing a detached retina or macular degeneration"...
Could Hyaluronic Acid Be an Anti-Aging Remedy?
Reprinted from a synopsis of an article which appeared on ABC's
20/20 show, featuring Connie Chung.
Every morning, Hiroshi Sakamoto wakes up and farms his
field, usually for about four or five hours a day. Sakamoto, who
lives in the village of Yuzuri Hara, two hours outside of Tokyo, is
86 years old. But his age by no means makes him the elder statesman
of his village, nor is a daily routine like his uncommon among his
peers. More than 10 percent of the population of his village is 85
or older — 10 times the American norm. The residents of Yuzuri Hara
are not only living longer, but they are also quite healthy. Rarely
do they have any reason to see a doctor, and they are hardly
affected by diseased like cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s. Many have even managed to keep their skin from showing
signs of aging. What makes the residents of Yuzuri Hara even more
remarkable is that they are living long, healthy lives — even those
who engage in unhealthy activities.

Oral Hyaluronic Acid:
Anti-aging, Skin, Joints and Healing:
An interview with Bill Sardi
"A remarkable finding is that these visible aging signs can be reversed with oral HA supplements.
A 57-year old woman called me from Florida. She works at a golf course. her knees were painful and "clicked" when she moved.
She called to say, after just two weeks of taking daily oral HA, that her knee pain had disappeared, her husband had told her that her facial skin looked better
than following two previous plastic surgeries, her hair dresser noted that her hair had begun to grow and was thicker, and most astonishing of all,
she had no need for her reading glasses any longer! Others have written or called to say they had cancelled knee operations, their crow's feet had disappeared,
and friends began asking if they had undergone plastic surgery. The visible results of oral HA supplementation can sometimes be remarkable and rapid."

New Wound Gel Takes Hyaluronic Acid A Step Further
"As the number of elderly people in the United States increases,
demand for biomaterials used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, cataracts, and facial
wrinkling will rise significantly. For those applications, physicians will steadily turn to
products based on hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance that gives structure to tissue, lubricates movable parts,
and absorbs shock in joints. Because the introduction of HA stimulates cells to produce new, healthy HA on their own,
the materials will quickly become the preferred biomaterial for a variety of applications.
This Frost & Sullivan study analyzes key application markets for HA-based biomaterials, including viscoelastics for cataract
surgery, viscosupplementation treatment for osteoarthritis, facial aesthetic implants, and vesicoureteral reflux implants.
With its assessment of drivers and restraints, and presentation of expert revenue forecasts, this study gives users a comprehensive view of a fast-growing field."

Hyaluronic Acid- Fast and Effective Skin Care
When you're sick, the whole family is in crisis so you try to eat a healthy diet and fit in some exercise-'but who has time for skin care?
Today you need skin care products that live up to their advertising hype and a regimen that takes just a few minutes. There is no shortage of
new products on the market. The claims on some are beyond belief. A quick look at the more credible products reveals high- tech options for today's
fast-paced lifestyles. Hyaluronic acid (HA) was an addition to the personal care label that caught my eye. Never heard of it? It is one of the most
researched chemicals that occur naturally in the body. It is an effective antioxidant and has an incredible ability to bind moisture to tissue.
Rapid healing and reduced scarring occur when hyaluronic acid is applied to wounds and severe bums. This is the chemical that keeps skin toned and
looking good by giving elasticity to the surface of the skin. With age, the body's production of HA decreases, hence the saggy skin and wrinkles.
It is an effective antioxidant and has an incredible ability to bind moisture to tissue. A recent study into the benefits of hyaluronic acid
focused on the residents of Yazuri Hara, a small village in Japan. Living into their 80s and 90s in very good health, they were smooth skinned
and almost wrinkle free. The studied revealed that the starchy foods in their diet enabled their bodies to maintain a high production of hyaluronic acid.
Check out your local health food store for moisturizers containing hyaluronic acid. Vegetarian-based products are available, so read the label.

New wrinkle fillers as treatment options for rejuvenation.
(Antiaging Update)
A new multi center clinical trial reports that hyaluronic acid gel was a superior soft tissue filler to
bovine collagen for the persistent improvement of nasolabial folds. Six months after treatment was completed,
study findings indicated that less volume of hyaluronic acid was needed to achieve optimal cosmetic results.
In addition, patients overwhelmingly preferred the gel substance to collagen. The overall safety profile of the two fillers
was fully acceptable and equivalent. Not yet available in the United States, hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring component of
skin that is the framework or medium that cells live in. Fillers can also be used effectively to augment and contour acne scars, to
enhance the chin and lips, and to fill in hollow areas such as the cheeks and under the eyes.

Oral Hyaluronic Acid Products:
Weighing The Differences
While injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) is the industry standard, many spa-goers recently have noticed HA is
readily available in an oral form in health food stores and pharmacies. Some publications in the dietary
supplement industry now have placed oral HA in the top 20 in supplement sales.
The history of HA in an oral form is relatively short. It is believed to have first been used by a veterinarian
working to improve the flexibility of his horse’s joints. Oral HA is widely used today by trainers, veterinarians
and humans alike. It is now finding a home not only as an oral product for human joint health but also as an anti-aging and “beauty from within” product.

Ask The Experts:
Weighing The Differences
"Cataracts and other age-related diseases of the eyes are
entirely preventable-and may even be reversed. First, if
you're a smoker, stop immediately; smoking dramatically
accelerates cataract formation. Second, if you have diabetes,
another risk factor, get it under control. Third, provide the
lenses of your eyes with the nutrients they require.
Free-radical damage is the key mechanism in the development of cataracts, and long-term use of multivitamins,
vitamins A, B-complex, C, and E, and carotenoids has
been shown to reduce risk of cataracts. You can get these
nutrients by eating lots of dark leafy greens, broccoli,
tomatoes, melons, citrus, and other fruits and vegetables. For
additional support, take a potent daily multivitamin, as well
as a vision supplement that contains hefty doses of lutein,
zeaxanthin, and other carotenoids..."

Eye-Opening Research
Weighing The Differences
"Vision impairment among the elderly is becoming a major area of public concern and in the United States alone there are more than
1 million that are blind and another 2.4 million that are visually impaired according to the National Eye Institute (NEI), which
expects these figures to double over the next three decades as the population ages.
Now even younger adults are at an increased risk due to environmental toxins, laser surgeries, diabetes and lack of dietary nutrients."
